Chapter 28


“What??”

Police officer Rasheed was slightly shocked.
“Yes sir.. One was a female”

“Didn’t you say that you couldn’t see their face in the dark?”

“Yes… I did sir”

“If so, how do you know that one was a female?”

“Even if it was dark, anyone can find out whether one is a male or female from their movements.”

“Ok… I got you… Did you happen to check what was thrown inside the pit?”

“No sir.. I didn’t want to do that…. purposefully… I’m a graduate, new to the city and in search of a job. So, I did not want to get into any trouble. I suspected that those people might be involved in a crime and I wanted to report it through the right channel. That is all I did. It is over to you now.  I will give you the exact location of the building.. You note it down if you like to..”

Rasheed noted down the details. He disconnected the call and immediately dialed someone on the landline phone. The call was picked up at the other end.
“Inspector Baskar here…”

“Sir.. This is Rasheed from the control room.”

“Yes Rasheed”

“I just got a call from an anonymous guy. You need to rush to one of the under construction apartment in Taramani area. I will give you the location”

“Anything serious?”

“I guess so”

Rasheed took a couple of minutes and narrated him about the incidents.  

Sabari parked his car in the portico and got out of the car. Ananya followed him. Sabari looked at the wristwatch and it showed the time as 04.15.

Sabari was too tired and his eyes were red and swollen. Ananya was dejected than tired.

Sabari while unlocking the door said, “Ananya!!! From now on, every minute is important and we need to be careful. Especially while talking to Abilash.”

“I’m sure that it is really tough to convince Abilash. He has showered lots of love on Vasu. Her absence will definitely affect him”

“Ya.. I know”

“You need not take all the stress. Introduce him to me.. I talk to him and will do my best to convince him.”

“You are right.. I will do that “

The door was unlocked and they entered the hall. Just when Sabari occupied the couch, his mobile phone rang. He looked at the display and realized that it was from Doctor Saravanan’s hospital, where the security Thangaraj was admitted. Sabari picked up the call.
“Hello.. “

“Mr. Sabari?”

“Ya.. Speaking”

“Sir.. Your security Thangaraj was back to conscious a few minutes back. He is tried to speak, but couldn’t. He murmured something and I couldn’t exactly get what he was trying to say. Can you come over to the hospital?”

“Sure doctor.. I will be there shortly”

Sabari disconnected the call and with closed yes, he leaned back on the couch. Ananya turned to him.
“Sabari!!! Who was on the phone?”

“It was from Doctor Saravanan’s hospital. Our security Thangaraj is back to conscious and was trying to speak. So, the doctor wants me in the hospital”
“Oh ok.. Then, we need to rush to the hospital immediately. What if, he blabbers something to the doctor or the nurse?”
Sabari took a deep breath and stood up. He was exhausted and with tired eyes, he looked at Ananya and said, “This is one hell of the night for us.”
Tears rolled down from Ananya’s eyes and she replied, “I don’t think this will end so soon. We might have to face many more such day and nights”

Location – Taramani

A police jeep stopped in front of the under-construction apartment. The constable in the jeep turned to Inspector Baskar and said, “This is the one sir”.

Baskar walked out of the jeep and looked at the construction site. There were incomplete pillars everywhere and the building stood as skeletons. The construction materials were scattered around.

Baskar turned to Sub-inspector Jayaram.
“Jayaram.. are you ready?”

“Always sir”

“Time is 4:30 AM… We will need some torch.. Did we carry any?”

“Ya.. We have four”

“Great.. Let us grab one each and get to work”

The constable took out the torches from a bag and handed it to Baskar and Jayaram. They switched it on and showered the light around.

Baskar asked, “Whose construction site is this?”

“No idea yet sir”

“Rasheed said that someone has dropped a suspicious object into one of the pillar trench. How many such trench can you find here?”

“There are a bunch of it in rows. We might have to check every one of it”

Jayaram walked in the front followed by Baskar. They started checking the trench from the one in the left. Once they passed a couple of pits, Jayaram stopped as he saw something.  
“Sir?”

“Ya??”

“Look at this spot… This one looks unusually wet than the others.. ”

Baskar looked at that and acknowledged it. “You are right”

Jayaram walked a few feet away from the pit. With the help of the torch, he showered the light across every corner. He skewed his brows and turned to Baskar.

“Something has happened in this spot sir… Can you see the marks on the sludge?  Trails caused by dragging a heavy object”

Baskar said, “Follow the trail and check where it is heading to”

Jayaram followed the trail and it led to a pillar trench.
“It ends here sir”

Jayaram walked near the trench and showered the light down deeper into it.

Sabari in a fraction of second tried to figure out whose voice it was. He was sure that he had heard it before, but couldn’t recollect. His mind couldn’t hold the suspense and he turned around. The moment he saw who it was, he got the shock of his life. In the opposite side, it was Abilash, standing leaning on the door with a grinned face. He looked annoyed and held a pistol in his hand. Sabari dropped the flower vase from his hand in the shock. Sabari exclaimed, “A..Abilash??” “Believe me… I didn’t want to make such an appearance in front of you and I tried my best to avoid it. But, fortunately or unfortunately, YOU made this happen. I cannot just watch my partners Prasanna and Pranitha harmed.” Sabari was out of words and stood silent. Abilash giggled. “Yes…. Prasanna and Pranitha are my partners and not siblings as how they were introduced to you.
