Chapter 46

While Inspector Mahadev and Sabari were ready to leave the hall, security Rangaraj entered in along with a carry bag. He handed the carry bag to Mahadev.

“Inspector… Here is the bottle from which I had the drink. “

“Ok.. I will get this checked by the forensic team. This will provide the sanity of the drink that you had”

“Sir…. I didn’t do anything wrong…. All I had was just a drink and that made me intoxicated. Someone used this situation and barged into the residence. I don’t want this news to reach my owner. If it does, I may lose this job for sure”

“You are worried about your job. But, I have my concerns on the incidents that happened behind the scenes. In this situation, all I would advise is not to get drunk for the next few days. “

Rangaraj nodded his head in acceptance for the advice. Mahadev and Sabari walked out of Shantilal’s Residence.

Mahadev said, “Sabari…. Do you have your car?”

“Yah..”

“You can go straight to the hospital. I will follow you there… What is the name?”

“GetWell”

“Doctor’s name?”

“Balaji”

Sabari entered his car and started the car ignition. He started to worry about Ananya. His car zipped through the streets towards GetWell Hospital.

 

Location – GetWell Hospital

 

Inspector Mahadev and Sabari were seated in front of Doctor Balaji in his consultation room. The clock in the room displayed the time as 8:00 PM.

Mahadev started his quizzing ceremony with the doctor.

“Doctor!!! Vasudharini’s native is a village called Poovani in Tirunelveli district. Is there any doctors working for you, who belongs to the place”

After a couple of seconds Doctor Balaji answered, “Ya.. There is one… Doctor Sarvesh. ”

“Is he in right now?”

“Yes…”

“I want him here”

Doctor Balaji didn’t like the authoritative tone of Mahadev.

“Do you suspect him in Vasudharini’s murder?”

“I don’t know yet…. We will know only when we get to enquire to him”

Dr. Balaji took his mobile and contacted Dr. Sarvesh. The call was picked up.

“Sarvesh… If you aren’t busy, can you come over to my room for a minute?”

“Sure doctor” and the call was disconnected.

In the next minute Dr. Sarvesh entered the consultation room. Sarvesh was fair and in his late twenties. He wore a rimless spec. Once he entered, Dr. Balaji directed him to occupy a chair. He looked at Inspector Mahadev who was in his uniform and wondered why was he called.

Mahadev began his enquiry straightaway.

“Dr. Sarvesh. We had to pull you for a small enquiry”

Mahadev spent a couple of minutes on the background of Vasudharini’s murder and fired his questions.

“Do you know that Vasudharini belongs to your native village?”

“Not really… you just told me.. “

“But.. Vasudharini was able to identify you.. “

“May be… I can tell you why… My dad is a well-known face in our village. Being so, obviously most of them might have known me as a doctor. Vasudharini is one among them. I spent less time in my hometown and I don’t know Vasudharini or Abilash. Moreover, I came to know that Vasudharini and Abilash are couple only by now”

“Hmm… At this point of time, I will take your statement. If at all I come to know that this is false, you might have to face the consequences.”

Dr. Sarvesh smiled and said, “Inspector….I’m sure that I won’t face such a bad situation. Let me tell you something. Even if I had known Abilash and Vasudharini and their relationship earlier, I’m not a crazy enough to report it to their parents as I’m not against such relationships.”

“Ok Doctor… We will get this investigated from a different angle. Our immediate need is to get Prasanna. May be, Abilash might have known him earlier. We need to talk to him. Thanks for the information and your time.”

When Mahadev was about to leave, Dr. Balaji interrupted him.

“Inspector”

“Yes?”

“Before you talk to Abilash, I need to warn you. Do not let him know that Vasudharini was killed. He had just recovered from a heart attack. And, someone had talked to him impersonating her over the phone. According to Abilash, Vasudharini is still alive and she had already informed him that she will meet him soon. Do not disturb his thoughts in this juncture.”

“Certainly… I’m aware of his condition and will take care”

“Ok fine.. Let’s go. “

All the four walked out of the room to meet Abilash. Dr. Balaji took the lead and Mahadev, Sabari and Dr, Sarvesh followed. They took the elevator and reached the second floor. They reached room 201 and pushed the door to open.

Abilash was lying on the inclined bed with his eyes closed. A monitor was displaying the Blood Pressure and the pulse on the screen. Doctor Balaji placed his hand on Abilash’s shoulder. The touch woke Abilash from his sleep and he sat straight. He was surprised to see unknown faces in the room.

Dr. Balaji said, “Abilash… Inspector Mahadev and Mr. Sabari are here to meet you”

Abilash asked, “What is this regarding?”

Mahadev came forward and said, “I can explain Abilash” and he continued.

“A couple of hours back, Sabari met me in the station and gave a complaint. In his complaint, he had mentioned that you are in a relationship with a lady named Vasudharini. Also that many from your village are against your relationship including your parents. Particularly, that your life is in danger because of them and that you need police protection. We wanted to meet you in person to confirm whether it is true.”

Abilash took a deep breath, smiled at Sabari.

“Inspector!!! Whatever Sabari mentioned in his complaint are absolutely correct. Our lives are under threat from our parents and others. This is all because we belong to two different castes. We wanted make our relationship work without getting the help of the cops. Looks like Ananya’s husband thought that taking the cops help would be the right choice.”

Mahadev said, “Abilash!!! You need not worry anymore. We will handle this and make sure you folks are safe.”

“Thank you Inspector”

“And I heard that Vasudharini spoke to you…right?”

“Yes!!! She did… When she called me last time she said she was offering special puja in a temple in Kanchipuram.”

“Did she tell you when she would call again?”

“Yes… At 8:30 PM”

Inspector Mahadev looked at his watch and it showed 8:25 PM.

Once I came to know about the Bionic project from my sources, I wanted to meet you personally and discuss. All my attempts failed.
