Chapter 14


Once Sabari disconnected the call, he could not believe what he heard. He tried to rewind what had happened.

‘Yes.. It was definitely Ananya… ‘
‘I told her that it would take an hour to reach home’
‘And yes.. it was a male voice’
‘The male voice definitely said that’
‘Who could that be? A relative? If it were, she could have informed me’
‘Should I ask her who that was?’

While he was debating heavily, there was a voice from behind.
“Are you done Sabari?”

Sabari turned around to see MD Sidharth.
“Yes.. Yes sir..”

Sidharth looked at him and asked, “Are you alright?”

“I’m alright sir... “ and he tried to fake a smile, but it didn’t work out.

“You were... But not now... any problem?”

“Nothing serious sir… My wife wasn’t happy that I’m not home for lunch yet.. Nothing else”

Sidharth giggled and replied, “That is silly and nothing to worry about. They are temporary. Once you reach home, the anger would disappear. Let us leave now. I will drop you home”

Sabari acknowledged the advice with a smile.
“Sure sir… we can”

They both came out and got into Sidharth’s Mercedes Benz. The first couple of minutes were silent with no conversations. Once the car hit the highways, Sidharth initiated the conversation. He looked serious.

“Sabari… You need to be careful until the completion of this project. The incidents that happened a while back was just a drama. But it can happen in real. You need to be cautious all time. Don’t move closer to unknown people”

“I can understand your concern and I’ll take your advice seriously. The Bionic project is my lifetime dream and I will complete it at any cost.  I’m very confident that I will complete it. The day is not too far”

“Sabari!!! I know you well. You were a top performer, a gold medalist and have won accolades for your research articles and white papers. Not just that. You have rejected multiple offers from foreign companies to stay here. The success of this project is not just for you. It is for us. For our organization.”

“I agree”

“Do you have any estimated date of completion in your mind?”

“May be a month from now”

“As said earlier, you might have to travel to Shanghai to meet Zhang Wei regarding the project.”

“I will do that sir”

“Talk to Prathap and come up with a date of travel”

“Sure… “

“Great”

Once the conversation paused, Sabari’s mind started to haunt him back about Ananya.

The Merc reached Sabari’s residence. Sabari opened the door, came out and turned to Sidharth.
“Sir.. Why don’t you join me for lunch at my home?”

“No thanks… I had a late breakfast today and after this, I’m heading out for a function. Your wife would be waiting for you. Right now you have an important task and the toughest job of pacifying her. All the best and you have a good time.. Bye for now”

“Thanks sir”

Once Sidharth’s car left, Sabari walked to the door and his hands went towards the calling bell. Then, he decided against pressing it. There was a window to his right and he slowly crawled towards it.  The window was slightly opened and he peeped in. Ananya was sitting in the couch facing her back. She was on a call with someone.

Sabari began to wonder to whom she was speaking to. Though he couldn’t hear the conversation clearly, a few words were audible with breaks.

“Think about it”
“We don’t have a choice”
“We shouldn’t get caught”
“We learn to talk a few lies”
“Why don’t you have a word with Vasu?”
“My hubby is on his way home for lunch and will be here anytime”

Ananya disconnected the call and rose from the couch. Sabari immediately hid himself and crawled back to the door entrance. He waited for couple of minutes and pressed the calling bell. The sound of the bell was audible and he waited for a minute. There was no response. His hand went back to the switch and when he was about to press it again, he heard the door unlock.

Ananya came out and she let out a lazy yawn.

“Sorry dear… I slept on the couch…That’s why I couldn’t open the door immediately”

Sabari was stunned by the framed lie. Without reacting and not speaking a word, he entered the hall.

Sabari asked, “Did you have lunch?”

“Come on.. I told you that I will wait for you.. So the answer is No. By the way, where is the car? I didn’t hear any noise of the car”

“I came with my MD Sidharth and he dropped me here”

“What happened to our car?”

“It is in office. Myself and Sidharth went out for an official meeting in his car. “

“How will you go back to office?”

“Cab”

“Hmm fine”

“Ananya!!! I’m hungry.. Lets have lunch. Get it ready in the dining table. I will refresh in the wash room and be back in a minute”

“Oh ya.. “

Once Ananya entered the dining room, Sabari quickly grabbed Ananya’s mobile phone on the mini-table and rushed inside the rest room.

  Sabari gazed into his laptop in the same position, as he was earlier. Abilash, with the mouth of the pistol, lifted his face and looked into his eyes. “Your delaying tactics won’t work Sabari. I have reached a deal with a Korean company. Once I receive the soft copies, I would swim in millions of dollars. Once I came to know about the Bionic project from my sources, I wanted to meet you personally and discuss. All my attempts failed. I was surprised when I came to know that your wife Ananya is Vasudharini’s close friend. That was enough for me to take it forward. And I had to tell Vasu about my plans. She was ready to support my ambitions. As our parents were against our relationship, we used the situation to our favour and looked for Ananya’s help. As expected, Ananya was ready to help.
